Hearts in Harmony – 2nd Session Curriculum for Cello
Warmup with stretches and "bow spider crawl". Review string names (sing names while plucking each string). Check placement of finger tapes on instrument. Go over "curvy fingers" and smiley thumb again (bow hold and left hand position). Practice the Mississippi Hot-Dog rhythm on A & D.
Stretch and bow spider crawl. Review. Learn finger numbers i.e. pinky is "4th finger" not 5 as thumb has it's own role. Introduce twinkle! Start with plucking the song and then reintroduce the bow. Simple rhythm.
Warmup. Start working on long bows. Add tapes to the bow stick to show where to start and end. *If necessary I will bring thumb circles to help out with proper bow hold*. Play twinkle with simple rhythm, Mississippi, and Strawberry.
Warmup. learn a D Major scale! Sing along with me first our solfège warmup song. Goal will be to pluck the the scale going up and down. SUPER GOAL is to use the bow. End with playing twinkle with the bow.
Warmup. Review finger positions (on the tapes) for the D Major scale. Use long bows. Learn note names that go along with our solfège warm-up! Last activity will be for each cellist to play twinkle individually while I accompany.
Time to show off all of your skills! Quick review and check up on bow hold, tapes, rhythms and tuning. Play twinkle and D Major scale one more time and then "group performance" for the rest of the violinists and violists.
*Warmup will always include solfège stretches, tuning, breathing, bow crawl and a little bit of rhythm singing.*
